“Pink Eye”

Last week I had that funny feeling in my eye…The sticky irritated, “I just want to close my eye” feeling.  Sure enough when I looked in the mirror one eye was quite bloodshot.  Of course it was late afternoon and I couldn’t get into the doctor.  Truth be told, this time of year I didn’t really want to go to the doctor and be surrounded but all those germs!  I remembered a friend telling me that she had used essential oils to help treat conjunctivitis in her daughter.  I figured it was worth a try since I couldn’t be seen by the doctor right away anyway.  I grabbed my Modern Essentials book and took a look.  I happened to have the suggested oils on hand so I gave it a try. I told myself that if it wasn’t better the next day I would go to the doctor.  To my surprize, when I woke up it was significantly better!  By mid-afternoon my eye looked almost normal.

Details-

  • Apply 2 drops of lavender and 2 drops melaleuca (tea tree) to a cotton pad.
  • Dilute with a carrier oil.  I used fractionated coconut oil.
  • Wipe the area surrounding the eye with the cotton pad.  I did it about every hour until it started to clear.

*Be certain it is well diluted!  It should not sting when you wipe the area.

Please be cautious.  If you do not see significant improvement in the affected eye see your doctor.
